I am looking for a new trumpet, what kind should I get?

I am a high schooler, in 10th grade. My first and only trumpet is a 7-10 year old King student trumpet. I am looking for an upgrade because I am starting to see some serious wear on my current trumpet. I play jazz and a bit of classical. I am looking for a trumpet with centered tone, fast reacting valves and slides, and good tone in the upper range. Obviously the musician makes the trumpet, not the other way around, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions from their experiences with intermediate-professional trumpets. Thanks!

I've played Bach trombones for years - they're very good, and their trumpets are too. One bit of advice - if you like a particular player - say Winton Marseilles - find out what he/she plays now... and what they played before. Often - the top tier of players are playing custom-built horns, but they're modeled after some production horn that they liked but wanted to tweak slightly. Playing what your favorite players use will also help impart some of their tone (not a lot - but it can't hurt).

Yamaha also makes a good semi-pro horn . Getzen is another brand that's popular with pro players. Bach "Strads" are still my personal favorites in that price range Good luck.
